When Stein’s offered the chance to eat at their restaurant in Kingston I jumped at the chance. I had heard about them before and how their authentic Bavarian (German) food as to die for. So getting the chance was something I was exited for and when they said I could bring a guest I knew who would love to join me as Jonny was in Sheffield. Its set with stunning views of the river Thames and last Friday when myself and Emma from www.missemmacharlotte.com went we were not stuck for choice on their extensive menu. Our server Kasia was so lovely and got us drinks straight away. Her authentic style outfit was great too.
We sat basking in the sun an at 6pm it was a lovely temperature and atmosphere on the terrace our table was facing the river directly.. but I can tell you if it was cold I would be more than happy to eat inside.
It reminded me of a log cabin and I can imagine in the winter it would feel so cosy and warming but for the summer it had the ability to feel fresh and bright with the light wooden furniture, I like this style of seating too it reminds me of Wagamamas.
For mains I had Currywurst Mit Bratkartoffeln this is a firm favourite of mine I always have this at German Christmas markets, its sausage serve with a tomato and curry sauce. It was served with pan fried potatoes another love of mine with finely diced onions and bits of bacon. There was a side salad but I only ate the pepper which had a lovely sweet dressing on due to the fact that this plate was all about the sausages and potatoes. I added some of the ketchup and sweet mustard too which went perfectly with the potatoes and came in such adorable little pots. You can tell from the third picture how much i may have enjoyed my food!
Emma went for Wiener Shnitzel vod der Hunnerbust mit Kartofelsalat This is a large chicken breast breaded and was served with a potato salad. It was slightly too lemony but I loved the garlic taste. Yes I tried and tested her meal too!
We were a bit cheeky as we didn’t fancy something like soup for the starter we asked for a dessert instead. Considering how full I was after this it was a miracle I managed half my desert but like the main it was so delicious and that’s one other good point hey don’t skimp on portion sizes.
I went for Apfelkücherl im Zimtzucker mit Vanilleeis this is apple fritters sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and a portion of vanilla ice cream. I always never know what to get for a dessert I like a lot but only within the last year or so have I like cooked fruit. Weird I know but like cold fresh fruit but since discovering I like apple pies and hearty deserts I love trying out new things and the fact cinnamon sugar was up for grabs meant my mind was made up.
A little cluster of blueberries on the side added a real freshness to the plate but I mean an apple fritter is basically a mini doughnut filled with apples, who doesn’t want to tuck into that. Emma ordered their Rich Chocolate Gateau and oh my goodness it was the largest slice of cake I have ever seen. If you are a chocolate lover then this is for you, again I tried it. It was rich yet light but wow a chocolate coma is defiantly a thing.
As you may be able to tell this place is a food lovers heaven. A truly friendly place and even if you just pop in for a drink it wont disappoint. Its close to the hustle and bustle of Kingston centre yet set on the most pictures location with views that will help make your meal all that more enjoyable.
If you don’t live near Kinston but can get to Richmond they have a restuant there too. But be sure to head to one if you can. Its authentic and different to most restaurants serving something most people only think of near the Christmas period.
