Who’d have though that six years on, LemonaidLies blog is still around and I feel more passionate about it than ever before. It is a long term hobby that I just can’t stay away from and to celebrate this next milestone here are 6 reasons why starting a blog is one of the best things you’ll do!
1. You are part of a community & build your own
Over the years I have learnt how important and valuable the community of bloggers is. Both people inside an outside of my niche. It is incredible the relationships you can build though blogging on both social media and in real life. You and this community have so much in common and while you will always get a few negative nellly’s the majority are super supportive and will help you in anyway possible. Social media can be a cruel place so having this two way relationship with both people you meet and people who connect with you though the content you create helps build multiple communities for you to be part of.
2. It’s a great hobby
It is a great hobby to have, for me it is what I do when I am not at work, it is part of most things I do and it’s something I can pour my time and effort into and feel I am reaping the rewards from, though the passion I have. I have had many hobbies over the years such as football, dance etc. but blogging is the one that I would say has helped shape who I am now which is so cool.
3. You gain a sense of self
You blog about what you do because you love that particular topic, niche or product. I have found, like I said above that my blog has shaped who I am and gave me confidence. When you love what you do and work on it so hard you know your field and are an advocate and in some ways expert so talking and discussing comes though it helps mold you and can help in other areas like public speaking and photography for example. Since blogging I have become more comfortable with myself, my style and my voice.
4. It can bring opportunity, even a job
Your platform can bring you brand collaborations, guest speaker opportunities and in mine and many others case jobs or be a doorway into the industry you create content about. Out of university I had no clue what to do, with a performance degree under my belt I was suck, but I thought about how I could harness my blog and my social media skills and got my foot in the door and started out in Influencer Marketing. Five years on, while my full time role is different is is still within marketing and communications and I owe that to my blog. On the side I work freelance to help brands with Influencer Marketing strategies and building outreach programs for campaigns.
5. You learn so much
You are constantly learning, learning how to do html, take better photos, pitch to brands, you name it. You learn as you grow and try new things but you learn from others around you. You can become a social media whiz or fashion photographer the possibilities though your hobby are endless. It all depends on what you want from it and of course what you put into it. You don’t need a fancy camera, but you do need the time and patience to learn and expand your knowledge and skill set to thrive. It is a never ending learning curve… things will go wrong, things will go right but the way you can learn and develop both personally and skill set wise is fantastic.
6. It is really fun
I enjoy it so much, from chats with bloggers or just people who don’t blog and are just interested. The fun opportunities such as events, creating my own content that you enjoy shooting but prefer looking at your 100 blooper shots it took before you got that 1. I enjoy spending my free time doing what I love, which is creating blog and social content and honestly if you even have an inclining to start blogging do.
Make sure you do it for the right reasons though a blog I did back in 2017 was around being authentic, brand collaborations and sticking to blogging you want to do this for the right reasons not for the free stuff which of course is a bonus but not why I or most blog. Make sure you are kind to yourself on your journey I changed the way I blogged so I was proud of my content it is a highly saturated market and a different landscape to when I started so don;’ feel pressured do it for you and love it because even starting is a hug step.
