If you didn’t read the title of this posts and finish it with ‘to show Avicii I was cool’, then I am not sure we can be friends. I’m joking but seriously if you had asked me six months ago if I would have liked Ibiza, I would have said ‘not really my type of place’ oh how wrong could I have been?
After a turbulent few months and the breakdown of well my 9 year relationship, engagement and the life I knew I was in a bad place a total anxious mess that was struggling with just day to day tasks. Sometimes though, things happen and they change you completely, by chance my neighbour Jo and me chatted in the car park and became friends and asked me to go with her and her friends to Ibiza to help me find myself again and just to have fun. Normal me would have said no for a number of reasons to name a few: I would be getting a plane alone, I didn’t really know them, I hated the idea of a party holiday oh and the money I hate spending money on just anything that I feel isn’t needed.
However I just said yes, a spontaneous yes to living life, dressing how I had wanted to for years again just from having been so self conscious and thought F**k it and wow, it was the best decision. This post may make you want to spend a small fortune on the white isle, it may make you ant to run and never head to a club but I will tell you what if you do Ibiza right (the nice side to Ibiza) you will have the best time of your life. Take it from someone who 8 months ago was scared to leave the house and now is planning to do so much travelling even possibly alone!
Do, see, eat & drink
Lio – Let’s start with the showstopper, quite literally. It’s a pricey night with a minimum spend of €200 per person and the cheapest bottle of wine coming in at about €100 you may want to splash the cash here though. Dinner and a full blown cabaret show overlooking the ocean. It’s luxe and lively and full of fanatic people having such a good time a must do if you’re in town. Food will set you back but if you want ease get the buratta with a side of fries or splash out on the lobster roll.
Blue Marlin – An uber cool beach club, grab a bed or a lounger. We had loungers which came with a minimum spend of €50 which to be fair for lunch and drinks isn’t too bad. You can basque in the sun, swim in the sea or dance the day into night away. You can expect the likes of Pete Tong to DJ here so you know you’re in for a good evening.
Nikki Beach – This place made me realise I am so not glam and I am so okay with it because in life no one needs a full face of make-up by the pool. We hired a bed here (this was free of charge through a friend) but it was great for at this point four of us as a base. Lunch at Nikki Beach is so nice I had a crab wrap and I could easily have it for lunch daily. Drinks are big, relatively pricey but the vibe is chill though it does get more manic as the day goes on. We had the afternoon here before heading out to Hi to see David Guetta, Idris Elba and Jonas Blue.
Sa Punta & Patchwork – The best place for dinner at sunset. Service is impeccable, the food is delicious and you can waste away hours here. After dinner your server can usually find you a spot upstairs at Patchwork bar for drinks where the vibe reminds me of a really warm Pergola on the roof style place.
Ses Savines – A short walk from our hotel was Ses Savines, a really beachy restaurant nestled at the corner of a cove. Again buratta was my go to and it was delicious with a crisp, cold bottle of wine it for me was the perfect way after a long time travelling to go here before heading back to the hotel and napping in the late day sun slumped in a hammock.
Pikes – Officially the most bizarre place I’ve ever been. Think Hefner’s house but in the 70’s it was trippy and I felt I could have been cast in Alice in Wonderland. We went on a Thursday which turns out is a bad day to go. If you go, head here on a Saturday or find yourself down the rabbit hole or in my case almost falling in a pool or taking a pee in what I can only describe as a giant gold disco ball. Conclusion this place really sobered me up and is also in the middle of nowhere.
STK – A firm favourite back in London for me is STK. Always a safe bet fro a good steak and the same goes for the one in Ibiza. However much like the one in Dubai STK here is a bit more party than low key dinner. We went on a night called Candy Pants and experienced people dressed up as pandas with lasers, table dancing and show girls it was fabulous but cost me a darn fortune after a number of drinks with dinner followed by a magnum of Dom Perignon.
Avanti – I actually didn’t end up going here as I had a left the evening before but some of the girls went here and it was too beautiful to not recommenced. Sunsets over a glass of wine here would be the ultimate date.
Pacha – When you have already spent a fortune in STK maybe don’t take yourself to Pacha and spend €200pp on a table where you don’t end up drinking any of your drinks and have to leave early (well 5am but still) I was fun though but it isn’t a dress and heels type place a standard ticked costs about €65.
Hi – I said no to going because I couldn’t justify €60 on a club I didn’t really want to go to until I once more threw caution to the wind jumped back out the taxi and the rest is history. It was amazing I was already in trainers and a comfy dress ready to go and Jonas Blue, David Guetta and Idris Elba were playing so turned out to be a great night. Back Coffee at Hi is also supposed be a fabulous.
Where to Stay – Sol Beach House Ibiza
Sol Beach house is a 4* hotel owned by Melia located right on the sea in Santa Eulària on the east coast of Ibiza. It is chilled and beautiful and out of the hustle and bustle you’ll fine over in San Antonio which is party central.
This place was full of bloggers is saw Zoe London, Kirsty Green and Charlotte Hole were all around when we were there so it’s a Instagramers paradise as you can imagine.
It is as I said a little further out so you will need to get a taxi to most of the main attractions but we much preferred the vibes here. It is the perfect base where you can chill out by one of the many pools, lounge in a hammock, walk to the marina or just kick back on a sun longer and listen to music with one of their incredible cocktails in hand.
I can honestly say, it is one of the most beautiful, fun and just darn right best places i’ve been done in the right way it’s nothing like a 20’s holiday where all you do is rave it is luxe and totally stunning.
Have you been to Ibiza? What is your favourite place?
